Documentary “Mulheres na Conservação” to Be Screened in Vitória with Director João Marcos Rosa in Attendance

A tribute to the strength and sensitivity of Brazilian scientists who are protecting our country’s unique biomes.


On August 8th at 5:30 PM, Cine Metrópolis, located on the UFES campus in Goiabeiras (Vitória – ES), will host a special event for those inspired by powerful stories of environmental stewardship. The documentary “Mulheres na Conservação” (Women in conservation) will be screened, highlighting the work of seven Brazilian researchers who are on the front lines of protecting iconic Brazilian ecosystems, including the Amazon Rainforest, Pantanal wetlands, Atlantic Forest, Caatinga scrublands, and marine environments.


The film is directed by Paulina Chamorro and João Marcos Rosa. For this special screening in Vitória, João Marcos Rosa—a photographer, journalist, and documentary filmmaker with over two decades of experience in science communication and environmental conservation—will be present.

Through a Sensitive Lens

João Marcos Rosa is a contributing photographer for National Geographic Brasil. He is also the founder of Nitro Visual Stories, and the author of award-winning books and projects that bridge art, science, and social engagement.


In the documentary, João and his team bring to life the dedication, sensitivity, and courage of women who face social, political, and environmental challenges in their efforts to protect Brazil’s rich biodiversity. Check below photos made by João:

“Mulheres na Conservação” is more than a film—it’s a tribute to female leadership in environmental science, and a powerful invitation to reflect on the importance of valuing, supporting, and amplifying the voices of these remarkable scientists.

The screening is part of the 2nd Seminar of the Harpy Eagle Atlantic Forest Project – Connecting the Doce River Basin, and reaffirms the project's commitment to science outreach and diverse voices in conservation.

Admission is free, and everyone is welcome—especially students, researchers, environmental activists, educators, and nature lovers.
